Decorations and Party Setup
Start by asking your guests to wear something school related — we like either a “throw back” to their school days (old school uniform, school sweatshirt, letterman jacket), or something reminiscent of school uniform. (Think plaid skirt, collared shirt, white tennis shoes, etc.) These can be really fun conversation starters, and will definitely make for cute photos!
For decorations, we like classic black, yellow, and red color schemes with apples, pencils, and school busses. We found some adorable items on amazon (photos above) that are perfectly coordinated and would easily bring your Back to School Bunco theme to life! We love this School Bus photo prop that would easily fill up an empty space, and double as a great photo opp! This cute banner would be perfect on a mantle or above a food table/bar, and this set of tabletop decor serves 24 people, is a great price, and includes everything you need for food and more— 2 table cloths, 24 plates, napkins, cups, cutlery sets, and balloons.
You can also use some household items you already have to decorate as well — use apples to create easy centerpieces, cover some books and stack them up as risers for your food display table or welcome table, and use mini chalk boards as welcome signs! Back to School Snack Ideas
There are so many cute snacks and appetizers you can serve to make your Back to School Bunco party festive. Here’s a few we love:
- Pencil Pretzels or Sugar Wafer Pencils: Dip pretzel rods into melted white chocolate or candy melts and use colored icing to draw the tip of the pencil and lines to resemble pencils. You can also try this cute idea from “inspiredbyfamilymag.com” to make sugar wafers into pencils:
2. Apple Nachos: Slice apples into thin rounds and arrange them on a platter. Drizzle caramel or chocolate sauce over the apples and sprinkle with toppings like chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or granola.
3. Charcuterie with cheese and Cracker Shapes: Use small cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes from cheese slices and serve them with crackers. You can make them in the shape of pencils, apples, or alphabet letters.
4. Back to School Apple Donuts – turn a glazed donut with red icing into adorable apple donuts like this pin we found from “yourhomebasedmom.com”:
5. Cookie Bookmarks: Bake sugar cookies in the shape of bookmarks, then use edible markers or icing to write fun messages or draw school-themed designs on them.
6. Mini Grilled Cheese Sandwiches: Cut regular grilled cheese sandwiches into smaller, bite-sized pieces. Serve them on a platter with a side of tomato soup for dipping.
