What to Wear for Football Bunco: Sporty Chic
When it comes to dressing up for a football theme Bunco party, encourage your guests to channel their inner sports fan while keeping it stylish:
- Team Jerseys or Team Colors: Ask your guests to wear jerseys from their favorite NFL or College football teams. Whether it’s the colors of their home team or a jersey with their favorite player’s name, team spirit will be in full swing! This is a really fun way to spur some friendly competition, even before the first roll of the dice.
- Athletic Attire: For those who prefer a more casual look, suggest athletic wear like comfortable leggings, sports shorts, and team t-shirts. Adding football accessories like hats or wristbands, or eye-black under eye patches can enhance the game-day feel. (Bonus: the eye-black patches can double as a welcome gift to hand out to guests as they arrive!)
3. Football-Themed Accessories: Encourage guests to accessorize with football-related jewelry, scarves, or socks. This is a great option for those who want to show their love for the game without going all out. I love these cute earrings for under $5! (at time of post.) These would also make a great prize for the big winner or even biggest loser.
Football Bunco Decorations and Party Set-up
Creating a football inspired atmosphere is essential for setting the mood of your Bunco party. Transform your Bunco space into a mini stadium with these creative Football theme decoration ideas:
- DIY Football Door hanger: I created this easy DIY door hanger for my recent bunco party, and it was a hit! I just used some burlap fabric from my local craft store, cut out 2 large football shapes from it, and glued the pieces together with hot glue. Before closing up the bottom of the football, I stuffed recycled grocery bags inside to keep it “full”. (The grocery bags will hold up to the outdoor weather better than traditional fiber fill.) Once the football was formed, I used white acrylic paint to add “laces” on the front, and attached a cute ribbon hanger and bow with more hot glue. So easy and so cute!
- Football Banners: Hang team banners, pennants, and football-themed posters around the room to infuse the space with team spirit.
- Yard Line Tablecloths: Use green tablecloths with white yard lines to mimic the look of a football field. You can buy a pre-made one like this one from Amazon, or make your own with some faux-turf and white tape or white paint.
- Football Balloons: Opt for football-shaped balloons and inflatable footballs to add an extra layer of fun to your decor. You can buy an inexpensive DIY baloon arch kit, and add football balloons to it to make it feel festive. The one I’ve linked for you actually includes the footballs! (Hint: If you’ve never done a balloon garland, they are super easy and fairly quick, but ONLY attempt one if you have an electric balloon pump!! TRUST me!)
Below is a photo from my party (Sorry for the poor lighting! I’ll do better next time!), BUT, you can see the turf table topper and the balloon garland with little footballs! It was so easy to put together, and brought some much needed color to my dark basement.
Food to Serve: Game-Day Grub Galore
What’s a football themed Bunco party without a mouthwatering spread of game-day tailgating grub? Serve up a variety of crowd-pleasing snacks and dishes that will keep your guests fueled and ready to roll the dice. Here are some ideas:

- Loaded Nacho Bar: Lay out tortilla chips with toppings like melted cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa.
- Chicken Wing Platter: Offer a selection of chicken wings with different sauces and dipping options. Provide celery sticks and blue cheese dressing for the complete experience.
- Sub Sandwiches: Prepare a variety of sub sandwiches with assorted deli meats, cheeses, and fresh veggies.
